Protective nature of the sealants

Dental SealantsAs general and preventive dentists in Fresno, California, Dr. Claudia Denes and Dr. Alex Denes strive to ensure the health of their patients’ teeth and gums. To do this, the Fresno Dental Studio team uses the most advanced and comprehensive general and preventive dental procedures and treatments available. One of these services is dental sealants.

What are Dental Sealants?

Made from a clear, plastic-like material, dental sealants are applied to the teeth to create a barrier between the tooth enamel and plaque-causing bacteria. Generally placed on the hard-to-reach back teeth, dental sealants literally seal the teeth to prevent tooth decay and enamel erosion.

How are Dental Sealants Applied?

Typically, dental sealants are placed on children and teenagers during the “cavity prone years.” Adult patients who suffer from xerostomia (dry mouth), are undergoing orthodontic treatment, and are very prone to tooth decay may also be candidates for dental sealants.

At your sealant appointment, Dr. Denes will thoroughly clean your teeth and then paint the sealant liquid onto your back teeth before setting it with a state-of-the-art curing light. Sealants are quickly, easily, and comfortably applied. With the proper care, sealants can last anywhere from five to ten years, so you’ll spend minimal time in the dental chair for extensive protection for your teeth.

To find out if you or your child is a candidate for dental sealants, ask Dr. Denes about this preventive dental measure at your next dental cleaning and exam. To reserve an appointment at Fresno Dental Studio, call (559) 297-1800. Fresno Dental Studio serves patients in Fresno, Sanger, Mendota, Orange Cove, Reedley, Selma, and the surrounding areas.
